Black Mountain Excavation is seeking a motivated Civil Construction Estimator to join our growing team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects including earthwork, grading, underground utilities, site development, and infrastructure projects.
The estimator will review project plans and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers, identify potential risks, and assist in preparing complete bid proposals. This role works closely with our project management, field operations, and leadership team to ensure successful project execution.

Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Bid Preparation
- Review project drawings, specifications, and bid documents
- Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, grading, and civil infrastructure
- Develop detailed cost estimates including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
- Prepare RFQs and coordinate pricing with subcontractors and suppliers
- Identify project risks and assist in developing contingency strategies
- Assist in preparing written bid proposals including assumptions and clarifications
- Support final bid review and submission
Pre-Bid & Site Review
- Attend pre-bid meetings with clients when required
- Review scope of work and project requirements
- Visit project sites when necessary to assess conditions and constructability
Project Support
- Assist project managers with pre-construction planning
- Maintain estimate documentation and supporting files
- Support project teams with estimate breakdowns and budget tracking
- Assist with post-award handoff to operations teams
Qualifications
- 2–5 years experience in construction estimating or related civil construction roles
- Experience with earthwork, utilities, site development, or heavy civil construction preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Experience with estimating software such as B2W, HeavyBid, HCSS, or similar platforms preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel occasionally for site visits or pre-bid meetings
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer
- Ability to walk construction sites in varying weather conditions
- Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening

The Heavy Civil Superintendent will oversee and manage field operations for heavy civil construction projects including mass excavation, utilities, road construction, and renewable energy site development. This role is responsible for supervising field crews, coordinating daily operations, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently and on schedule.
The superintendent will work closely with the General Superintendent, project managers, foremen, and operators to lead crews, manage site activities, and ensure successful project execution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Field Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead and manage field crews performing heavy civil construction work
- Supervise daily operations including earthwork, utilities, and roadway construction
- Coordinate tasks with foremen, operators, and laborers to ensure efficient production
- Train and mentor operators and foremen to improve performance and jobsite efficiency
Project Execution
- Oversee mass excavation operations including cuts, fills, grading, and site preparation
- Coordinate site activities and subcontractors to maintain project schedules
- Manage daily work plans and ensure crews are working safely and productively
- Maintain high standards for workmanship, safety, and quality control
Site Coordination
- Work directly with the General Superintendent and project management team
- Manage daily scheduling and coordination of site operations
- Prepare and submit daily reports
- Ensure proper documentation of work progress and jobsite conditions
- Identify and resolve potential field issues before they impact the project
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience as a Heavy Civil Superintendent or Senior Foreman
- Strong experience with mass excavation, road construction, and underground utilities
- Knowledge of GPS machine control systems
- OSHA 10 certification required
- Ability to lead and manage multiple crews
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and manage assigned projects with minimal supervision
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling and jobsite coordination
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be drug-free and able to pass a background check
- Must be able to work independently and manage assigned tasks
- Must currently reside in Colorado or Wyoming (or be relocating immediately)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to walk job sites and uneven terrain for extended periods
- Ability to supervise and coordinate field operations throughout the workday

The Project Manager Assistant will support the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction projects including mass excavation, underground utilities, road construction, and renewable energy site development. This role assists the Project Management team in organizing project documentation, tracking schedules and budgets, coordinating communication between field and office teams, and ensuring projects remain on track.
The Project Manager Assistant will work closely with Project Managers, the General Superintendent, Superintendents, and field crews to help coordinate project activities, maintain documentation, and support successful project execution.

Documentation & Project Tracking
- Maintain accurate and organized project documentation.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain project files, reports, and schedules
- Track project progress, deadlines, and budgets
- Assist in preparing daily updates and project reports
- Ensure project documentation is accurate and up to date
Communication & Coordination
- Support communication between project stakeholders.
- Coordinate communication between clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of subcontractors and deliveries
- Help ensure materials and equipment are ordered and delivered on schedule
- Assist with project updates and client communication
Procurement & Project Support
- Provide support for purchasing and project logistics.
- Assist in procurement and material ordering
- Track delivery schedules and ensure materials arrive on time
- Help coordinate equipment and resource needs for project teams
Project Administration
- Provide administrative support to ensure project efficiency.
- Assist with preparing proposals, bids, and project updates
- Support site inspections and documentation as needed
- Assist with safety documentation and compliance tracking
- Perform general administrative duties that support project operations
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in construction project coordination or project administration preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Basic understanding of heavy civil construction processes

- Experience with project management or construction software is a plus
- Ability to work independently and support multiple project teams
